Few holidays gather a crowd in St. Louis like St. Patrick’s Day. At Arch Interim Housing we love a parade! While living in St. Louis, even if it’s a short-term stay, it’s important to take the opportunity to experience the St. Patrick’s Day Parade if you get a chance. This year’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 12:00 pm in downtown St. Louis. The parade takes place “rain or shine.” It will begin at 18th and Market streets, and proceed east to its conclusion at Broadway and Market streets. It’s important to dress for the elements, as most of the action takes place outdoors. Bring some friends and a few beverages enjoy while you take in the sights and sounds! Food and drinks are also sold at many locations around the parade route.
If you’re looking for a way to stretch your legs in celebration of St. Patty’s Day, don’t miss The 2014 St Patrick’s Day Parade Run on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 9 am. One of the largest events of its kind in the St. Louis area, with more than 13,000 participants, the 5-mile run travels the streets of downtown and midtown St. Louis. For $5 you can check a bag before the run and then after you finish, change into fresh clothes to enjoy the rest of the day.
Finally, it’s no surprise St. Patrick’s Day is the most popular day of the year in Dogtown, St. Louis’ famous Irish neighborhood. Every year, crowds gather along Tamm Avenue for the Ancient Order of Hibernians’ parade. In 2014, the parade is on Monday, March 17, at noon. St. Louis actually has two St. Patrick’s Day parades, but many consider the Dogtown parade to be the real Irish celebration. The parade kicks off with the AOH Irish War Pipers and the AOH Honor Guard. This parade has more of a neighborhood feel, similar to those held in Ireland.
The authenticity means you won’t see giant floats, but will feel the Irish pride in adbundance with plenty of Irish dancers and bands, but most of the parade is filled with members of the St. Louis Irish-American community marching as clans under their family crests.
St. Louis is full of unique experiences, and St. Patrick’s Day is no exception.
